Purpose:
To clear internal static, reconnect with wairua, and open the energetic pathways between Te Pō and Te Ao. This is best done seated or standing, facing east if possible.
1. Ko te Takoto – Grounding Stillness
• Sit tall or stand with your feet flat on the earth.
• Eyes closed. Hands resting gently on the lower belly.
• Inhale through the nose (4s) → Hold (2s) → Exhale through the mouth (6s) — repeat 3x.
• With each breath, feel the body settle, as if returning to a remembered place within.
Affirmation (silently or aloud):
“Ka hoki au ki te ūkaipō – I return to the source that knows me.”
2. Te Ara Haerenga – Path of Whakapapa
• Inhale and visualise a silver thread extending from your huinga (perineum) deep into Papatūānuku.
• As you exhale, another thread rises from your whatumanawa (third eye) toward Ranginui — connecting with Te Waiora a Tāne.
• On each cycle, feel the threads weave together through the tuaiwi (spine) — a sacred whakapapa channel forming.
3 rounds, breathing with intention.
Let any tension be swept out by this current of whakapapa.
3. Te Puna i Roto – Awakening Inner Waters
• Lightly tap or massage these key water points to activate inner flow:
Under cheekbones
Centre of chest (sternum)
Behind the knees
Wrists (underside)
• With each breath, see the clear spring waters of Hinekauorohia bubbling up from within, bringing renewal and clarity.
Whakaaro (internal focus):
“Ko au te puna, ko te puna ko au – I am the source, the source is me.”
4. Karakia – Te Āki i te Wairua
Speak or whisper this karakia to awaken spiritual clarity:
E tomo ana te wairua ki te whare o Tawhirirangi,
Hei te pō, hei te ao, ka puta te ira tāngata.
Whakamāui te tinana, whakahoki te mauri ki tōna ake tūrangawaewae.
The spirit enters the house of Tawhirirangi;
From night into day, the essence of humanity emerges.
Restore the body, return the life force to its rightful standing.
By the end of this practice, you should feel:
Calm but alert
Grounded but open
Ready to receive and release — prepared for wānanga.
